Going through the tags, some people speculate Benny will be Dean’s “Ruby” (the use-you-like-a-fool part, not the i-am-sex-and-crack-dealer-in-one part).

Er. I’m unsure it’d be the same deal. Out of all the creatures Dean’s come across, he knows which can never be trusted (demons, leviathans, wendigos, …fairies) and which can go on a case-by-case basis similar to human behavior. Sam, because he’s just that precious, trusts anyone pretty quickly with very little to go on. Meanwhile, Dean has so many trust issues he probably side-eyes himself in the mirror.

If Dean trusts Benny enough to be allies, something must have happened in purgatory to earn that. To be okay with Benny hitching a free ride “home” and walking away clean, when we’ve been told Dean’s back to his personal hunting life mission: he must have done something worth a fuckton of brownie points.

At least, i hope so. We have writers and showrunners who know the characters they’re playing with here. And we know the actors are more protective of their characters than anyone. If anything seemed sketchy, or looked like a character’s motivation could only come from a baseball bat to the head, i’m sure at least one person involved would speak up. Mostly sure. Like…98%?
