I’ve seen two and a half episodes of the DisneyXD (which i’ve kinda forgotten what purpose—didn’t it start out as an X-TREME channel for boy demographics but now it’s for whatever?) series Motorcity and i’m still unsure if i like it or not.

But i can’t resist watching.

The animation is SO PRETTY and fluid and vibrant, and the character designs remind me of Jamie Hewlett’s Gorillaz. Altho i’m still iffy wtf is going on within the overall plot. Probably because i can never catch the first ep. There’s like an up and downstairs Detroit like ShinRa built it, and some dude who looks like a car salesman from the 80’s (voiced by Mark Hamill) is apparently a corrupt city official, and this rebel/terrorist group ‘The Burners’ try to stick it to The Man by driving their really loud cars with magic powers (jkjk future tech) at all hours of the night which everyone knows makes old people super pissed. Hijinks ensue.

Besides the animation, i think what kept me around was noticing the lead Burner named Mike interacting with token brainiac Chuck. Chuck doesn’t have his own car nor does he drive, so he rides with Mike and does his techie magic in the passenger seat. Mike is reluctant to do anything without Chuck by his side, even if just for moral support or to hear someone screaming when he drives too fast, and the guy is the only one among the group to call him Mikey. It’s pretty adorable. I’m worried it’s gonna sneak up on me that they’re cousins or something.
